Tate Modern Liverpool
19 August 2010
Produced by Hope Street Ltd in partnership with Tate Liverpool
A performance inspired by Tate Liverpool’s exhibition Picasso: Peace and Freedom. Produced by Hope Street Limited in partnership with Tate Liverpool, under the creative direction of Spaniard Montserrat Gili, with over 50 artists from across the world.
The performance was accompanied by music directed by Jonathan Hering, New Music Producer at Tate Liverpool and the Liverpool Philharmonic, and performed by the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
Picasso: Peace and Freedom explored the postwar period of the artist’s life, revealing him as a tireless political activist and campaigner for peace. Taking inspiration from the works in the exhibition, the Party Political performers have created a vibrant collection of performances and ‘happenings’ including ‘death under the dinner table’, communist journeys, bull fights, dictators and musical peace processions. The event has featured over 50 performers from across the world, as well as local community groups with the participation of artists from Gdańsk Archipealgo of Culture.
Performances took place in the galleries, foyer and Albert Dock. In addition, a series of ‘pop-up’ performances happened randomly around the city centre and in Liverpool One in the lead up to the event.
